Details: Windows 98 Second Edition. Windows 98 SE stands for Second Edition. The original Windows 98 version is therefore sometimes called Windows 98 FE (First Edition). Windows 98 SE is nothing more than a revised Windows 98 that has been given a few system updates. These include DirectX (6.1), Internet Explorer (5.0), and Media Player (6.01), to name a few examples. New hardware now supports DSL modems and Firewire devices. Some rather minor Year 2000 updates have also been incorporated; for these, Windows 98 required Service Pack 1 in the first version. The only difference in the scope of delivery for Windows 98 SE is that you can no longer order floppy disks. The OEM versions use only bootable CD-ROMs. With Windows 98 SE, the CD-ROM comes in a jewel case. Only in earlier versions is the installation code found on the manual cover; instead, the Certificate of Authenticity sticker was introduced. System requirements for Windows 98 SE: - 486DX/66 MHz or higher processor. - 24 MB of random access memory (RAM); more RAM increases performance. - The standard installation requires approximately 205 MB of free hard disk space, but depending on the system configuration and selected installation options, between 140 MB and 315 MB may be required. - CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. - VGA or higher resolution monitor. - Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device.
