The 99 Classics series from Meze Audio proves that audiophile sound isn't necessarily a privilege reserved for the upper echelons. At Europe's largest headphone trade fair, "Can Jam Europe," visitors recently voted them onto the winners' podium – alongside two such models that cost the price of a used car or a condominium, respectively. It's no wonder, then, that headphone manufacturer Meze has since become an insider tip in the audio scene. With the new 99 Neo, the 99 Classics family has now been expanded to include a true highlight. These closed over-ear headphones are characterized by the use of high-quality materials such as stainless steel and aluminum-zinc, which, thanks to their service-friendly construction, guarantee a very long service life. Unlike the 99 Classics, the earpieces are not made of solid walnut. Antonio Meze wanted to set new standards both stylistically and acoustically with the 99 Neo, and so he chose extremely torsion-resistant polymer shells with a unique surface texture. The fine-tuning of the 40mm neodymium drivers combines the unmistakable "analog" sound of the 99 Classics with extremely sensitive resolution, without ever tending towards "hissing." The included cable (including microphone, remote control, and adapter) ensures maximum flexibility in use with a hi-fi system, as well as with smartphones, tablets, and portable audio players. The headphones, all in black with silver accents, interpret the timeless design language of the 99 Classics in a more subtle and modern way, but with just as much style and attention to detail. The wearing comfort of the headphones, which weigh just 220g, remains unchanged, inviting hours of listening pleasure.
