- The Christmas baubles are hand-blown "in front of the lamp." The baubles receive their luster from the Liebig silvering process, which has been used in Lauscha since 1867. Silver nitrate, dissolved in an aqueous solution, is filled into the bauble. Heat causes it to precipitate on the inside of the bauble. For the vibrant colors, aniline dye dissolved in nitrocellulose lacquer is applied to the outside. This dye contains neither cadmium nor other heavy metals.
